Many residential flooring options are available, including vinyl, laminate, vinyl, tile, vinyl and wood. But carpeting is still very popular. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, carpeting accounts for 51 per cent of the entire flooring market. It generated over $10 billion in revenue in 2019.

Carpeting is a great option for people who love its warmth and softness. It also requires less upkeep and maintenance than hard-surface floors. Professional residential carpet cleaning can be kept looking fresh and new by frequent vacuuming and occasional deep-cleaning scrubbing.

Pro Tip 1 – Blot Stains, Do Not Rub Them!

Do not immediately scrub a spilt stain. This will only make the stain worse. Instead, use a cleaner solution and a sponge, paper towel or clean cloth to rub the stain gently.

Blotting is the key. Tarbox states that blotting applies light pressure to the stain to absorb it. “Rubbing can cause the particles to be ground into the fibres, which can lead to premature fiber breakdown.”

Blot the stain from the outer edge inward towards the centre. Blotting outward can spread it further.

Pro Tip 2 – Club Soda & Vinegar Are Your Friends

Club soda can be used to remove wine and beer stains from carpeting. This is true – if it’s used correctly.

Spray the solution on the stained area and wait for 10 to 15 minutes. Tarbox says that you should then apply a dry, clean sponge to the stained area. This will absorb the cleaning solution as well as the light stain. Continue this process until all stains are gone.

Once you have removed the stain from the carpet, rinse it with warm, clean water. Your hand can gently brush the carpet strands in their natural direction. Tarbox explains that you should lay several sheets of white paper towels on the floor and then weigh them down with a phonebook.”

To absorb moisture from the carpet, place towels on top of it. They will stay there for about one day.

Pro Tip 3 – Use shaving cream

It will remove almost any type of stain. Tarbox states that the shaving cream should be applied directly to the stain. It should sit for around 30 minutes. After the shaving cream has dried, wipe it off with a clean white cloth.

Spray the area with a 50/50 mixture of water and white vinegar, then wipe it off with a clean cloth.

Pro Tip 4 – Dish soap cuts grease

Mix the solution until it dissolves.

Tarbox says to pour the solution into a spray bottle and soak the greasy stain. Then, blot the solution with a clean cloth or paper towel. This may be repeated several times depending on the size of the stain and its age.

Pro Tip 5 – Freeze Chewing Gum

This is a common scenario: You walk out and chew gum on the street. But you don’t know until you find that sticky, gross mess in your home and onto your carpeting. Your freezer is the best place to find out how to remove gum from carpeting.

Tarbox advises that you grab a few ice cubes and then press them against the gum for between 30 and 45 seconds. After the gum has frozen solid, you can use a spoon or sharp knife to remove the gum. The spot will not be visible if you only cut a small portion of the carpet.
